Love Till It Hurts

Love till it hurts

We honor the legacy of Felton and Mary through our local food company. Wherever they went, they modeled a life of generosity and building community. They turned strangers into family. They gave people second chances to create a better life for themselves. They always found ways to bring people together. Our family and company live by their example, with a firm desire to amplify the community and help improve the lives of others the way Felton and Mary encouraged us to do.

This is a remarkable time for our country. As an unapologetic Black-owned business, we are determined to act with generosity to empower, amplify, and unconditionally support our community. We encourage unity and the celebration of diversity in its many forms. We are choosing to stand up for what we believe in, and what is right. We encourage you to join us in the ongoing conversation, advocacy, and fight for causes that matter to us.

“My grandparents Felton & Mary, or Pawpaw & Mawmaw as we affectionately called them, taught me so much about being strong in the face of racism, bigotry, and discrimination. Their decision to move to Southeast Portland in the mid-’80s during the height of the KKK and skinhead activity in the area was crazy to me. Despite it all, this is where they planted their flag of hospitality, unapologetic Blackness, urban farming, community building, and love of Jesus, proclaiming they wouldn’t be moved.Their love of people, food, and new adventures created an oasis in the midst of indifference, fear, and racism. They turned strangers into friends and friends into a family with grace and their conviction of loving until it hurts. Love, grace, and generosities are their legacy and the inspiration for our company and our actions.” - Tory Campbell, Founder, and Steward

Making Way for Young People

Felton and Mary, both in their home and restaurant, made room for the youth to thrive and express themselves. For many SE Portland high schoolers, Felton and Mary’s barbecue restaurant was their first job. It was a training ground to learn work ethic, nurture customer service skills, and find an extended family. So we take this value forward by starting a scholarship fund for Black, Indigenous, and other People of Color youth.

Your Donation will benefit

This fund will help BIPOC youth seeking to achieve their goals by reducing financial barriers to opportunities. Since 2022, we provided 12 scholarships totaling $6,000.
